Hi, I'm Josephine Oniyama, and Dawn Encore is my record label. I set Dawn Encore up to release my own music and finally take control my creative journey, my sovereign musical path, in a world that has undervalue music and underpaid the people who make it. For me, independence is the only way forward in this climate.
I love making music, it was always my dream and like most creatives, I never set out to be a business owner, but if owning a business and dotting the Is and crossing the Ts is the only way I can get my music out there, then that's what I'll do. And many other artists are doing also.
I am the writer, performer, arranger, producer, marketer, administrator, accountant, CEO.... the list is long. And, right now, I can't say I know how to get all of that done. But this is not a task for a day, it's a task for a lifetime.
Today, I produce and release my own music. Tomorrow, who knows. I'd like to help others release their music, make productions for film and TV, generate connections and collaborations that promote and reinforce independent music making.
I don't think anything is impossible.
